My Snake Game High Score Is Embarrassing But I Keep Playing
Personal story about getting hooked on browser Snake during work breaks, and why short gaming breaks are actually good for you.
I have a confession. My Snake high score is 247. That is terrible. The top scores online are in the thousands. But I do not care. Snake has become my five-minute mental reset button.
Here is how it started. I was in back-to-back meetings for four hours. My brain felt like a browser with 47 tabs open. I opened Snake. Arrow keys. Eat dot. Grow longer. Avoid wall. Simple. Five minutes later, I was noticeably more focused.
The Science of Micro-Breaks
Research shows that short, engaging breaks improve cognitive performance. Your brain needs variety. Snake provides exactly the right level of engagement — enough to distract from work stress, simple enough to not create new stress. I now take a Snake break between every two Pomodoro sessions. My afternoon productivity has improved noticeably.
